Plainspoken terms
Plainspoken is in development. These terms describe the planned first public release; no public download is available yet.
Publisher and software license
Toward Commonweal LLC is the publisher and operator of Plainspoken. Original product intellectual property is owned by Toward Commonweal Holdings LLC and licensed to the publisher. The App Store application uses Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement and App Store usage rules. Third-party components retain their own licenses; their notices are available in Help & About. These product terms explain our service and content boundaries and do not restrict rights granted by third-party licenses or mandatory law.
Trial and purchase
The initial United States release is planned to offer a free 21-day trial that starts only when you activate it through a verified Apple transaction. Its original expiry is not restarted by restoration or reinstallation. It does not renew or automatically charge. The planned permanent purchase is $19.99 in the United States. Apple shows the actual price and any tax before confirmation. A permanent purchase unlocks the licensed app without a subscription, subject to the applicable license, lawful refund/revocation and platform rules. It is not a guarantee of every future product, new feature, perpetual download availability or compatibility with future hardware or software.
Family access and restoration
The permanent purchase supports Apple Family Sharing for eligible family members under Apple’s rules. The trial itself is not shared. Family access depends on the purchaser’s ownership and sharing settings; a separately owned purchase continues while Apple confirms it. Purchases, offer redemption and restoration are handled by Apple. Use Restore purchases in the app or Apple’s refund service for a refund request. Expiry or revocation preserves your Library, and restoring access does not start playback.
Your Library after expiry
Reading, listening and adding new readings require an active trial or purchase. Library browsing and searching, notes, export, Library import, removal and Help remain available after the trial ends. Manage your backups and exported copies separately.
Content you import
Import only content you own, have permission to use, or may otherwise lawfully use. Comply with applicable law and binding third-party terms governing access and use. Plainspoken does not grant rights to third-party content. Personal use does not automatically make every copy lawful. Retained readings and exports remain subject to the rights in their source material; obtain any rights needed to share them.
Acquisition boundaries
The app prepares the specific page or text you deliberately select, including publicly accessible X posts and articles through direct anonymous on-device requests. It does not crawl accounts or threads, enumerate sites, fetch every quoted or linked post, borrow browser credentials, bypass access controls, unlock hidden paywalled content, remove DRM or impersonate an account. Authentication barriers, paywalls, challenges and rate limits stop capture. Quoted previews remain previews; an unavailable or incomplete document stays pending with recovery actions. Authenticated or subscription content must be legitimately accessible and permitted for the intended use. Plainspoken does not claim endorsement or express authorization from X or other source publishers.
Attribution and accuracy
Plainspoken keeps available title, author, publisher and source information with imported material. Attribution does not replace permission. Page extraction, text normalization and generated speech can make mistakes. Check the original source for important details. The app is not a source of professional, medical, legal or financial advice.
Privacy and support
The privacy notice describes local storage, source-site requests, backups, Apple commerce and voluntary support. Email hello@towardcommonweal.com for help or a rights concern. We do not host a public library of imported content and cannot remotely inspect or remove a reading on a user’s device.
Changes and consumer rights
Availability and feature details remain subject to completion and approval before first release. Future changes will be described accurately. Nothing here excludes nonwaivable rights or overrides Apple’s applicable refund and platform rules. Updated October 24, 2026.
